Professional Experience

Coforma | Principal Product Designer, HCD Lead

March 2020 – Current

This is the work I’m most proud of — leading human-centered design teams building products that directly affect how clinicians and healthcare administrators do their jobs at the VA and CMS. The problems are complex, the stakes are high, and that’s exactly the kind of environment where I do my best work. I lead research, shape design strategy, and work closely with stakeholders and engineering partners to make sure we’re always building from evidence and never losing sight of the people the work is for.

ConsenSys | Lead Product Designer

September 2018 – February 2020

Blockchain was having a moment, and the real design challenge wasn’t the technology — it was making it feel like something normal people could actually use. I worked with enterprise teams and used research, workshops, and prototyping to reduce friction and bring concepts to life. One project I’m proud of used image recognition to quietly handle the most confusing parts of getting someone set up, so they could just get to the thing they actually came to do.

The Washington Post | Lead Product Designer

February 2016 – August 2018

The Post was where I got to explore what design looks like at the edge of where media and technology meet. I managed a small team, dug into user research, and worked on emerging platforms — from augmented reality and voice assistants to a progressive web app we demoed at Google I/O. I also worked as a liaison between the Post and major tech platforms like Google, Apple, and Facebook, which meant staying close to where the industry was heading and helping shape how the Post showed up there.

The White House | Senior Designer, Office of Digital Strategy

August 2014 – January 2016

Working at the White House meant designing for one of the most visible digital platforms in the world — and taking that responsibility seriously. I led a full responsive redesign of whitehouse.gov with a real focus on mobile users, because that’s who was actually showing up. I also got to contribute to live digital experiences for moments like the 2015 State of the Union, which was one of those rare projects where the stakes and the excitement were both very real.

Threespot | Art Director

July 2003 – August 2014

Eleven years is a long time, and I’m grateful for every bit of it. I got to lead design work for organizations I genuinely respected — the Smithsonian, Brookings Institution, Harvard Business School, the Kennedy Center — doing mission-driven work before that was really a phrase people used. It’s also where I grew into a leader, learned how to work well with all kinds of teams, and started to understand that the culture you build around the work matters just as much as the work itself.

Leadership & Teaching

Leader as Coach | Certificate Program

July 2024

Completed an immersive seven week program “designed to equip leaders with the mindsets, techniques, and hands-on practice to develop coaching capacities that drive organizational success.” Areas of learning and skill development focused on Foundations of Coaching, Listening and Asking Questions, Making Observations, Coaching Conversations, and Feedback and Accountability.

General Assembly | Instructor & Designer-In-Residence, UXD Evening Class

2014 & 2016

Supported students in this 10-week part-time course as they learned how to conduct user research, define problems, build personas, wireframe, prototype, and perform usability testing.

AIGA DC Board of Directors | VP, Strategy

September 2006 – June 2011

The Washington, DC chapter of AIGA (the professional association for design) has more than 1,100 members and relies on a volunteer board to implement programming and other initiatives. After actively volunteering for many years, I served on the board as Director of Digital Communications and Vice President of Strategy. I’ve been an active member of AIGA since 2005, supporting several national initiatives over the years.
